National Student Show And Conference 14

The ultimate inspiration is the deadline
— Nolan Bushnell

Having a deadline is indeed a great motivator for us graduating seniors. I remember all of us rushing to get things done for the National Student Show and Conference in Dallas. I am so glad that we all got finished revising and preparing our portfolios before our flight. It was our first time to go to the event and we were all representing our school so we wanted to make everything perfect.

On April 11th, 2018, five of us Graphic Design students flew to Dallas, Texas, to attend the National Student Show & Conference, the nation’s largest competition and conference for graphic design students. Brianna Ivey, Holli Turner, and I also had work that was selected for inclusion into the show. My piece that got into the show was my Music for the Hungry poster series.

The event was a three-day conference where we were able to meet professionals and other design students from different colleges. We were also able to tour around some of the agencies in Dallas, such as Neiman Marcus, Avrea Foster, and Stripes.

The Dallas Society of Visual Communication created the National Student Show & Conference in order to help students transition into the design industry. The event weekend includes nationally renowned keynote and breakout session speakers, break out sessions geared towards acclimating the student to real world skills and job preparations, guided student tours to Dallas design and advertising agencies, round table discussions, a job fair and portfolio review where students can gather feedback from experienced creatives and learn what it takes to garner a dream job, and the chance to compete for awards and over $15,000 in scholarships and cash with students from competitive design programs around the country.
